Cahirdaniel village is at the centre of the most scenically beautiful part of the Ring of Kerry, which runs from Seem and extends 25kms to Waterville. Cahirdaniel is a beautiful village full of character, with restaurants, pubs, shop and RC Church. Derrynane beaches, amongst the most beautiful in Ireland, are a mere 2 miles away with Derrynane house and gardens, home of Daniel O’ Connell, The Liberator, overlooking the longest of the beaches. The house is a working museum with video displays and lovely little “tea rooms”. For the outdoor types the area features hill walking on the famous Kerry Way, swimming at numerous beaches and inlets, water-skiing at Derrynane pier, scuba diving from the Activity Ireland Centre in the village, golf at the world famous Waterville links (10 miles) or the scenic and tranquil Parknasilla in Sneem (10 miles), fishing (both sea and freshwater), and horse riding at Eagle Rock in Caherdaniel village. Access to Caherdaniel is easy with airports (in order of closest proximity) at Kerry (1 hr), Cork ( 2.5 hr), Shannon (3.5hr), Galway (4.5hr) and Dublin (5.5 hr), while Rosslare ferry port is about 4 hrs and Cork a mere 2 hrs. Sneem, 10 miles to the east, is the most colourful and picturesque village in Ireland with rainbow-coloured shops and villagers of matching warmth and colour. The name means "knot or twist" and describes the shape of an hourglass with a "single-car-bridge" being the knot and with two greens at either end. Waterville, 10 miles to the west, featuring numerous fine restaurants and pubs is home to a world famous golf links, regularly frequented by Tiger Woods and co. on their preparation tour to the British Open. |
