A charming thatched character self catering cottage on the Ring of Kerry

Wren Cottage is a comfortable character self catering thatched cottage, 3.5 miles from Killarney, bounded by a stream, in one of Ireland’s main tourism centres. It has been completely renovated and extended to an extremely high standard, introducing modern luxury and safety, whilst retaining some old world charm. Wonderful open countryside and mountain views and a wealth of local activities make this a delightful property in which to holiday.

The cottage boasts three bedrooms and a large lounge featuring a cathedral style vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. The lounge includes a wood burning stove standing in the original fireplace, with exposed 3 foot thick stone walls, which provides a focal point and gives the room a cosy feel. A beautiful leather couch and fireside armchairs, coffee table, an LCD TV/DVD and music centre, hidden in a contemporary painted dresser and a cinema surround sound system, are all provided for guests comfort and convenience. A small DVD library and games compendium is also provided. A stable half door leads to the rear patio.

Also on the ground floor are the new kitchen and a downstairs double bedroom with the added benefit of an en-suite bathroom. This is fitted with a large power shower and single sauna unit. The bedroom contains a king-size bed and features dual aspect wooden sash windows.

The newly fitted Shaker style kitchen with dining area, seating six, has, as you would expect in a property fitted to such a high specification, a Belfast sink and a full range of integrated units comprising a fridge freezer, cooker, hob, dishwasher, washing machine/drier and microwave. It also offers many extra utensils including a café tier and toaster.

The ground floor has a slate tiled floor throughout with under floor heating pipes. Wooden sash windows are fitted throughout with internal shutters.

Upstairs are a further two double bedrooms – one with a double bed and the other a twin dormer room. These upstairs rooms are at opposite ends of the house and each is reached via its own individual staircase. Both bedrooms have views to the rear of countryside and mountains. The family bathroom boasts a free-standing cast iron slipper bath with power shower over.

Music speakers are fitted in all the bedrooms and bathrooms. All linen and towels are provided. Fire alarms are fitted.

An initial supply of logs is provided free with further supplies available to purchase. Electricity is inclusive, although a small charge is made for each sauna use to cover the extra cost. Hot water in the summer months (and partially in winter) comes mainly from a solar panel. Winter heating costs are included in the rental.

A welcome package includes tea, coffee, milk, jam and butter, with fresh scones as well, when available.

Outside

The secluded small rear garden, with built in BBQ, is bounded by a stream and overlooks the countryside and mountain views. A decking area extends over the stream. The presence of this stream may make the property unsuitable for young children. There is off road parking for several cars. All manner of wildlife has been seen near the cottage including hawks, otters, dippers and Red deer.
